Report

During the first working meeting on September 26, the Geo4All innovation program for the geothermal sector was officially launched. Participants from all 5 work packages were present. Work package 5 focuses on the value of geothermal production data.

For this work package, the following attendees were present: Arco Stuij (project participant, Alfa Laval), Stephan Dingemans (project participant, CABN), Leo Kleijweg (project participant, CABN), Floris Degener (project participant, WE-P), Jelmer Visscher (project participant, Greenhouse Geopower), Guido van Yperen (EBN), Pejman Shoebi Omrani (TNO, Lead Scientist), Frank Maartense (Program Manager Technology, Geothermie Nederland), Janine Verweij (Director, Geothermie Nederland).

WP5 will investigate and apply the value of geothermal data where possible. For this purpose, various existing datasets from geothermal operations will be collected and analysed. Additionally, new, supplemental datasets and the desirable or necessary sensors for monitoring data will be identified.

Examples of data to be collected and analysed include those from (ESP) pumps, efficiency and maintenance of heat exchangers, and precipitation mechanisms in both underground and above-ground installations.

Greater knowledge of this data can lead to significant reductions in wear and maintenance costs of geothermal installations. It can also contribute to the circularity of materials used in geothermal installations and operations. Applying and analysing geothermal production data using innovative techniques offers tremendous opportunities to make the application of geothermal energy more successful and productive.

In WP5, data will be collected from 36 doublets, including annulus pressures, operating parameters, NORM precipitation, scaling, and oxygen levels in injection water. Failures of components in geothermal installations will also be tracked and analysed. Much of the analysed data will be used to formulate benchmarks and KPIs.

The sharing and ownership of the information will be carefully documented.

On behalf of the WP5 team,
Frank Maartense, Program Manager Technology, Geothermie Nederland
