In November 2024, the EAGE Global Energy Transition conference GET 2024 was held in the Netherlands, and in Rotterdam. 1,500 experts gathered. It was the first time there was a full programme of speakers specifically focused on the role of geothermal energy in the energy transition. Speakers from countries with a long geothermal history (think United States, Italy, France) told about their experiences and scientific results. Participants of Geo4all gave a presentation on the design and first results of this innovation programme that started in 2024.

Radboud Vorage and Kris Hopstaken provided the kick-off.

In his presentation, Coen Leo of Teon discussed the opportunities for closed-loop systems using a new and fast drilling technique. A technique that makes it possible to drill deeper and thus harvest more heat from underground.

A joint presentation by Andrea Vondrak and Alexander van Noort explained the unique measurements set up by Ennatuurlijk Aardwarmte to not only model but actually measure the cold bubble in their reservoir.

Jonah Poort (TNO) explained to the participants how important the structured collection and analysis of data from the geothermal plant helps to make it more efficient and reliable.

After a lively discussion, led by Kris Hopstaken and Radboud Vorage, speakers and visitors to the session continued to talk at length about the results of Geo4all and studies that have been launched. The conference organisers indicated after the lectures that they intend to continue to pay attention to geothermal energy in the coming years. Innovation programmes like Geo4all, and thus the Dutch geothermal sector, are thus well in the minds of the 1,500 international energy experts who attended.
